Other Requirements:

You will be requested to upload some of the following documentation as an "assignment" at the beginning of class.

 

  • You must be 18 years of age by the time you take the State of Indiana EMS Commission written examination.

    • You will have one year from the completion date of the course (TBA) to successfully complete the practical skills and written examination or you will be required to complete another full EMT course.

  • This is primarily a computer-based online course.

    • You must have access to a reliable computer.

    • You must have reliable access to a good internet connection.

    • You must have a way to print and scan documents.

    • You will be required to complete several other short online courses prior to the end of class.

  • You must have a GED or high school diploma.

  • You must provide a copy of a current driver's license or state ID card.

  • You will be required to apply for a PSID (Public Safety Identification) number. You may complete this prior to the beginning of class. This number will be used throughout your EMS career in Indiana.

    • DO NOT apply for another PSID number if you already have one. There are instructions to look yourself up on the linked page.

  • You will be required to apply for a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) SID (Student Identification) number to take a couple of the required online courses. You may complete this prior to the beginning of class.

    • You will receive a number immediately onscreen and through an email. Save it!

  • You must provide a current limited criminal history search. (See below)

    • Being convicted of a crime does not disqualify you from attending an EMT class, but you may not be able to become state certified, so it is better to find out before investing in a class.

    • Being convicted of a crime does not automatically disqualify you from becoming an EMT. Cases are decided on an individual basis by the State EMS Commission office (IDHS).

    • If you have a conviction you must report it and provide certified court documents to the State EMS Commission (IDHS).

    • If you have been charged with or convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation as an adult you should contact the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Certifications Division prior to attending an EMT class. (IDHS EMS Website) or (800) 666-7784

  • You must hold a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) card. 

    • If you do not have a current card or the correct card, please contact us to purchase a key for the online portion of the course.

    • You can be checked off on the skills portion of the class the day of orientation.

  • You must provide proof of a current, negative TB (tuberculosis) test prior to beginning any clinical hours.

  • You must provide proof of an up-to-date vaccination record prior to beginning any clinical hours.

  • You must provide proof of a current flu shot (during flu season) prior to beginning any clinical hours.
